Chicago, IL - November 9, 2005 – The Board of Directors of Community Counseling Centers of Chicago (C4) today named psychologist, Robyn Inaba, Ph.D. and the Motorola Latino Business Council as the recipients of this year’s community service awards. Recipients will be honored during the C4 2005 Annual Meeting; a public event at Northern Trust Bank, 50 South La Salle Street, 6th floor assembly room on Thursday, November 3, 2005 from 5:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

C4’s Community Service Award is an accolade that recognizes the awardees for their outstanding roles in facilitating quality assistance and treatment for adults, children and families in the Chicago area who are struggling with mental illness, substance addiction, emotional trauma and the aftermath of violence.

For the past four years, the Motorola Latino Business Council has volunteered countless hours and provided hundreds of gifts to the children and families of the Logan Square/ Avondale Child and Family Counseling Center during the holiday season. Viviana Ploper, associate director at C4 comments, “I was deeply touched upon seeing the energy, commitment and generosity that the Motorola Latino Business Council put into holiday giving by providing gifts that were carefully matched to the wish lists of the children and the families that we serve.”

Robyn Inaba, Ph.D., Clinical Psychologist for the Detention Center has been instrumental in facilitating the coordination of services for C4 youth who have been involved with the juvenile justice system. Chris Carroll, program director for C4’s Screening, Assessment and Support Services (SASS) and Mental Health/Juvenile Justice (MH/JJ) services states: “Dr. Inaba has been a wonderful addition to the juvenile justice system. She has embraced working with community mental health providers and views us as partners. This is particularly critical when so many of our youth suffer with mental health issues and are part of the juvenile justice system.”

The 2005 Annual Meeting is aimed at generating awareness of the full range of outpatient behavioral health services available at C4 such as: 24-hour crisis response and emergency assessment, short-term counseling, intensive psychotherapy and support groups, psychiatric and medication evaluations, medication clinics and education on medication monitoring, substance abuse treatment, vocational services, parenting classes, case management and linkage to community resources, psychosocial rehabilitation, a variety of therapy modes; including art and expressive therapy, representative payee and financial management as well as services for survivors of sexual violence.

C4 currently operates eight facilities across the city of Chicago and was established in 1972 as a grassroots response to a federal policy that left communities the task of developing services for people who were released from psychiatric hospitals into neighborhoods that were ill-equipped to provide for their needs. Last year alone, the agency served 7,000 unduplicated consumers.
