Chicago, IL - October 28, 2005, Cisco Systems, the worldwide leader in networking products, announced the winners of its annual Cisco Growing with Technology Awards contest, which recognizes creative ways organizations are using Internet technology innovations and the unique adoption of networking solutions to drive business success. Community Counseling Centers of Chicago (C4) competed for this prestigious award and is pleased to have received the award of Honorable Mention from a pool over 2000 applicants.
C4's application highlighted its innovative use of thin client networking technologies and terminal services servers to maximize the benefits of internet offerings. This included how the agency had transitioned from a frame relay network backbone to more efficient and cost effective T1 point to point circuits. Consolidation of printing resources and implementation of a managed internet for web resources were also outlined. This distinguished award was formally presented to Azam Masood, C4's Network Manager, and Tuan Huynh, C4's Network Administrator, during Cisco's recent awards ceremony in San Jose, CA. "C4's Cisco Growing with Technology Award reflects the tremendous knowledge and skills that our information systems staff contribute to the agency's mission," expressed Paul Stieber, C4's Chief Information Officer. "It also underscores how the agency implements innovative and cutting edge technologies in a cost efficient manner."
This is the second year in a row that C4's information systems has been recognized nationally. In 2004, the organization received the J.J. Negley President's Award for Excellence in Risk Management for its advancements in reducing clinical and financial risk through on-line clinical documentation, billing, and service tracking approaches. "I think the Cisco and Negley awards complement each other nicely," states Paul Stieber. "While the Negley award recognized our efforts in design and programming, the Cisco Growing with Technology Award highlights our network architecture and successful computer systems infrastructure processes."
C4 is a comprehensive community-based behavioral healthcare organization that offers a comprehensive array of services: 24-hour crisis response and emergency assessment, short-term counseling, intensive psychotherapy and support groups, a variety of therapy modes, including art and expressive therapy, psychiatric and medication evaluations, medication clinics and education on medication monitoring, substance abuse treatment services, vocational services, parenting skills classes, case management and linkage to community resources, psychosocial rehabilitation services, representative payee and financial management services as well as services for survivors of sexual violence.
C4 currently operates eight facilities across the city of Chicago and was established in 1972 as a grassroots response to a federal policy that left communities the task of developing services for people who were released from psychiatric hospitals into neighborhoods that were ill-equipped to provide for their needs. Last year alone, the agency served 7,000 unduplicated consumers.
