JEWEL-OSCO SUPPORTS C4
 December 29, 2005
Jewel-Osco Joins List of Supporters for
C4's Parent Education Program

Chicago, IL – Community Counseling Center of Chicago (C4) recently received a grant of $5,000 from Jewel-Osco in support of C4’s Parent Education Program. Since 1996, the Parent Education Program at C4 has provided free parenting skills training that strengthens family relationships and reduces the incidence of child abuse and neglect.

Presented as an eight-week series of positive parenting classes, three individualized home visits, and an on-going support group, the parent education program is designed to enhance parent-child interaction, promote non-violent discipline and violence-free homes, increase knowledge on child development, provide a network of social support and facilitate access to community resources.

Jewel–Osco and its parent company Albertsons, believe in being a good neighbor by contributing to the quality of life in the communities they serve. In 2004, Albertsons provided nearly $82 million in cash and in-kind donations with support focused on hunger relief, education and the development of our youth, and health and nutrition. Albertsons support of local communities and youth activities dates back to the first store opened by Joe Albertson in 1939. Mr. Albertson's generosity and leadership have served as the foundation of Albertsons understanding of the importance of community involvement, and the development of the programs Albertsons offers today.

For more than 30 years, C4 has offered a full range of outpatient behavioral health services designed to assist adults, children, and families to cope with emotional and behavioral health problems and to achieve and maintain independent functioning in the community. C4 services include: 24-hour crisis response and emergency assessment, short term counseling, intensive psychotherapy, case management and linkage to community resources, psychiatric and medication evaluations, medication education, pre-vocational programs, residential options, sheltered work center, rehabilitation and socialization, a variety of therapy modalities, including art and expressive therapy, representative payee services as well as behavioral health services for survivors of sexual violence.

Established in 1972 as a grassroots response to a federal policy that left to communities the task of developing services for people who were released from psychiatric hospitals into neighborhoods that were ill-equipped to provide for their needs, C4 has continually developed services to address a multitude of behavioral health issues that exist in the community. With highly qualified staff who speak more than 21 languages and dialects, the agency receives citywide referrals and serves approximately 3,000 consumers monthly. Last year, C4 served 7,000 unduplicated consumers.
