C4 Parenting Program Awarded $40,000 from Hedge Fund Community
Community Counseling Centers of Chicago (C4) has been awarded a $40,000 grant from Hedge Funds Care to support its Parenting Education Program.
C4’s parenting program, which reached 293 low-income parents last year, provides eight-week classes that focus on positive parenting skills designed to reduce the incidence of child abuse and neglect. The bilingual classes include home visits that allow C4 parent educators to observe family interaction at home and refer members to 12-Step programs, mental health counseling, health care, literacy, job skills, legal aid and gang prevention programs. Besides its own facilities, the agency offers its parenting series in eight Chicago Public Schools, libraries, and other community sites.
C4 was one of 18 Chicago nonprofits to receive Hedge Care funds in 2006-07.
“I am very excited about this partnership with Hedge Funds Care,” observes Katharine Bensinger, who supervises C4 parenting services that began in 1996 under her direction. “Our missions are a 100 percent match.”
Hedge Funds Care, an alliance of hedge fund industry professionals, has raised more than $20 million to combat child abuse since its founding in 1998. The nonprofit currently awards grants in seven major US cities, as well as the Cayman Islands, London and Toronto.
Established in 1972 to develop community services for persons discharged from state mental facilities, C4 provides mental health services, substance abuse treatment, parenting classes and sexual violence emergency services and advocacy to more than 7,000 low-income men, women and children every year.
