The National Alliance for the Mentally Ill ( NAMI) Chicago is sponsoring its fifth annual 5-k walk on Sunday, September 19 in Grant Park at 10 am. Participation is free, but walkers are asked to solicit donations.
The event will raise money to support NAMI of Greater Chicago services, which include a free referral hotline,publications, family and consumer support group meetings, and a speaker's bureau. NAMI organizers point out that the public event also fights the stigma of mental illness.
