Celebrate the Arts of Survival April 12
The Arts of Survival, an event celebrating the healing and creativity of rape and sexual assault survivors, will take Tuesday, April 12 at the Awakenings Foundation Center and Gallery, 4001 North Ravenswood Avenue, Chicago from 5:30 pm to 8 pm.
Cosponsored by the Awakenings Foundation and C4's Quetzal Center, the event will feature music, art and dramatic performances by survivors of sexual violence. Beverages and light hors d'oeuvres will be served. There is a $10 suggested donation.
The third Annual Arts of Survival celebrates Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
"If you are female and live in Illinois there is a one in seven chance you will be raped during your lifetime," observes Courtney Avery, director of C4's Quetzal Center, which provides free crisis services, counseling and advocacy to more than 200 sexual assault survivors every year. "For women and men who have survived rape or incest, the scars last a lifetime. Expressive art can help heal wounds and raise community awareness."
