Jamie Jimenez, a C4 advocate at The Quetzal Center, testified this week at a state hearing called to investigate the violence at Illinois Nursing Homes, which house a disproportionate share of persons with mental illness.
Jimenez, who works with survivors of sexual violence at The Quetzal Center, told members of Governor Quinn's Nursing Home Task Force that measures must be introduced to safeguard the well-being of seniors with physical and mental disabilities.
"A nursing home is not the place to test the rehabilitation of violent offenders. It is not the place to see if the fox can live peacefully in the henhouse," Jimenez told the public hearing.
Jimenez was testfying on behalf of the Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault, of which the Quetzal Center is a member. Every year, the Quetzal Center provides legal and medical advocacy to more 200 sexual assault survivors.
